1:17 Scale Peterbilt 359 car carrier 'Hot Wheels'.
About this creation
This is my first large scale truck of 2010. It is a 1:17 Peterbilt 359 car carrier, which is based on an existing truck from the USA. I have always wanted to build a car carrier to support some 1:17 cars.
It is not that I have so much Lego cars, but from now on, if I build some, they have a stylish place to be parked.
I love the 1:17 scale. The amount of bricks, and the construction time is at a totally different level then on a 1:13 construction. Still you can pack a high level of detail in there.
I started of with the tractor chassis, which is as detailed as anything outside, even though it doesn't meet theye at first glance. Actually, there are more then 100 lights under the chassis for some night drive illumination. The suspension, exhausts, compressors, differentials, everything is in place and in many cases chromed. The chrome I did myself once more. I had the bricks industrially chromed, and they look awesome. What I don’t use I sell, so if you desire some send me a message.
The truck itself has everything what you can think off. Fully chromed engine with turbopiping that is attached to chromed aircleaner housings, gearbox and fully chromed stacks. The cabin interior is complete and has a custom dash, seats and heavy audio system. The sleeper has a colour trimmed bed, but is also equipped with a big media system, and a LCD at the ceiling.
In this construction the fifth wheel at the back of the chassis is gone and has been replaced by a Cottrell replica body that can fit three cars. Details you can find here: http://www.cottrelltrailers.com/
I have tried to make the Cottrell body and ramps close to scale, working, and at the same detail level as the tractor itself. The challenge was to maintain the custom look also on the bodywork, so I added some contourlights and a touch of chrome. Off course this ride has a custom license plate… called ‘Lugnuts’, a gesture to my Lego friend Lino, who is a lover of custom cars, like myself, and is a big contributor to the Lego car community.
The additional trailer is basically constructed like the body on the tractor. Theoretically It can carry six extra cars, depending on the length of the vehicles, so I have something to build this year! I have used the chromed rims also on the trailer to create a balanced overall look.

Thanks all of you for all the kind comments. To answer some questions:
- Some of the next cars will be a Maserati MC12 and a Rolls Royce Corniche. One or two lowriders are definitly going to be there too. My next project is a 1:13 Scania R620 showtruck, so they have to wait a bit :-)

Oh Wow! Utter Awsomeness! That is sweet.You should make a tricked out low rider pickup truck with a stereo in the back that you can put on the semi. Great work, cant wait to see more mocs.

You've raised the game again : ) This is epic! The chrome looks amazing, but to be honest, I think it makes the model look less 'Lego-y' which personally I wouldn't choose. Other than that, which is only a personal preference, this is perfect - it's going to look very very cool when you get some cars on it. 10/10 |
